Winterthur was a revelation. Only 20 minutes away from Zurich, this is the sixth largest city in Switzerland and is a playground for explorers.
On a Tuesday morning, I walked a few steps away to explore the weekly market in the heart of the Old Town. Every Tuesday and Friday, the farmer’s market has many local visitors. The stalls here sell everything from cheese, oils and dressings, breads and meat, flowers, vegetables, fruits and related items.
I noticed most of the vendors were seniors who had grown or made the product themselves at home. They were very friendly and communicated with me in gestures and broken English expressions. They sold seasonal specials like asparagus, celery, kale, snow peas, raspberries and spring flowers, amongst many others.
